Dying Light Video Game Review

1 comments click here
Final Verdict - Worth Checking Out

Wow it feels like ages since I done a game review for you guys. Been through a lot of real life drama alongside running the blog and trying to stream more often so do forgive me. This without a doubt has been the main game of 2015 that I have bee waiting for release. I am very happy to say it did not disappoint but saddened as well that it suffers from a primary fault I had hoped it would have bypassed. Zombies is one idea that will never get old in games but it is good to see developers still trying to rejuvenate the concept and implement 'new' concepts to keep things interesting. Which is how we end up with this wonderful zombie apocalypse survival game completely in first person view with the added twist of parkour based elements. So lets visit the world of Harran and try to stay alive...

Dying Light is a 2015 survival horror video game developed by Polish video game developer Techland and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Microsoft Windows, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Dying Light is a zombie apocalypse-themed game set in an open world. Players traverse an expansive urban environment overrun by a vicious epidemic, scavenging the world for supplies and crafting weapons to defend against the growing infected population with a heavy focus on free-running mechanics. The game revolves around an undercover operative sent to infiltrate a quarantine zone in a city called Harran called Kyle Crane. The game is mostly melee-based with the majority of fighting using melee weapons. There are more than 100 weapons that can be used and more when players begin crafting new weapons. The game features a vertically scaling open-world metropolis with a dynamic day and night cycle that provides an interesting dynamic to the game for increased difficulty.

What’s Good:
Graphics: This game is no joke in the graphical requirements area. If you do not have a beefy rig don't think about playing this in its best graphic fidelity. The game really is demanding and it it expected with the immense and expansive world Techland has given the player to explore. The attention to detail shines through especially when you get up close and personal with zombies or the environment.

Game Mechanics: From the skill tree system to the overall vertical approach of the world most if not all game mechanics work will to immerse the player as well as give a viable and steady show of progression so the player feels growth and development as they play. Granted towards the latter parts of the game things might seem a bit easy but given the high difficulty curve of this game its well deserved by then.

Replayability: The game has co-op mode so that's a plus, added to that the variety of skills to choose from and progress with add some versatility and diverseness. Some more hardcore players have expressed dissatisfaction with the game difficulty. As such this has lead to modders/gamers coming up with fun little ways to enhance the overall survival experience

What’s Bad:
Story-line: A bit lackluster in its delivery and overall progress. A lot of back story missing and character relationship development missing. Its a bit sad that more fun is extracted from just free roaming and side quests seeing what the world has to offer.

What Should Have Been Added:
I only wish for one thing and that would be fast travel between safe houses. I get that it helps the overall feeling of the game and post zombie apocalypse but it gets real old real fast having to navigate the same areas all over again.

Final Thoughts:
I had a blast playing this game even with the difficult learning curve. I was very engrossed and entertained playing this game, I would only recommend this game to seasoned veteran gamers however due to the difficulty level. The story could have used some fleshing out to make the campaign beefier and potentially more substantial with the integration of the co-op mode. You can see my initial reactions to the game in my stream below...

Movie Club Night: The Colony

6 comments click here

Hey there guys and girls; back again I see for another Monday Night Movie Club I see. Well last week we watched White House Down and that completed or double viewing of both Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down. Now since both movies shared similar plots I figured it was a good idea to have us watch both and then compare the two and decide which we preferred and why as well as giving the movies a rating. After watching both I can easily say for myself that I enjoyed White House Down more than Olympus Has Fallen. Even though both movies involve the president being betrayed by someone close to him and the White House being taken over by Terrorists I would have to say White House Down is the more touching and believable of the two plots. Granted the movies aren't going to be winning any awards, but they definitely manage to be entertaining. I give Olympus Has Fallen a 6/10 and I will give White House Down a 7/10 overall. Now that we have addressed that lets see what we will be watching together this week on In The Mind Of My Mind...

Forced underground by the next ice age, a struggling outpost of survivors must fight to preserve humanity against a threat even more savage than nature. When the world changes the rules of survival change with it. In 2045, the Earth faces extreme cold conditions which force survivors to live in underground bunkers. Their challenges are controlling disease and producing sufficient food. Two soldiers, Briggs (Laurence Fishburne) and Mason (Bill Paxton) are the leaders of one such bunker, Colony 7. The movie as of writing this currently holds a 5.5/10 score on IMDb so lets see if that is a correct grading for the movie. Welcome gamers one and all to another video game review here with your friendly neighborhood gamer Zalgo_Cometh. Today we have a true masterpiece; Telltale Games has finally released unto us the long awaited DLC for the highly praised "The Walking Dead" series. The Walking Dead: 400 Days DLC—which bridges the gap between Season One and Season Two—launches on PSN, PC, XBLA, and iOS. The DLC will initially be available on PSN tomorrow, then hit PC July 3, XBLA July 5, and iOS devices July 11. So for those of you contemplating it let me alleviate your worries; YOU NEED TO GET THIS DLC!!! We have been playing and reviewing this series from start to finish and it is one of the few games we went the extra mile to record a complete play-through for. So you know it definitely top tier gaming goodness. Check it out...

The Walking Dead: 400 Days is an additional episode released in July 2013 as downloadable content for the first game to bridge the gap between this season and the game's sequel. It focuses on five new characters during the first 400 days of the zombie outbreak. The story is presented in a similar narrative style as the movie Pulp Fiction, with a final sequence summarizing the results of the game and the interaction of the five stories. The five characters introduced, and their stories in rough chronological order, include:

Vince (played by Anthony Lam), who before the outbreak committed a murder to help his brother but was sentenced to prison for the crime.

Wyatt (Jace Smykel) who is fleeing in a car along with his friend Eddie (Brandon Bales).

Russell (Vegas Trip), a young African-American man trying to see if his grandmother is still alive.

Bonnie (Erin Yvette), a young woman that was addicted to drugs at the start of the outbreak, and whose has been picked up and cured of her addiction by a couple, Leland (Adam Harrington) and Dee (Cissy Jones).

Shel (Cissy Jones) and her younger sister Becca (Brett Pels) are part of the group that takes over the truck stop after Russell's story; the group includes several that were part of Vernon's refugees.
An epilogue follows Tavia (Rashida Clendening), working with a large human encampment to find survivors and bring them to safety.

What’s Good:
Game Mechanics - Flawless execution through and through. Not a single complaint as per interactions with the environments or the characters themselves.

Story-line - Love the idea of having multiple stories that interconnect at different points; by the end of the DLC you see how it all comes together so perfectly. By the end I found myself wanting to know even more about each of the characters so I could feel more connected to their individual stories.

Replay Value - Lots of replay value to go around as always since every choice effectively impacts the future course of the game. From as far back as episode 1 right up to the new DLC you have so much choice it will be hard to not go back and try alternate routes and outcomes.

Graphics - More and more I have grown to love the drawn comic book feel of this series and I am glad to see they have not only stuck with it but also fine tuned it even further. It is truly a sight to see everything this world has to offer on max graphics setting on a proper PC.

Soundtrack - Superbly scored music and sound effects that help immerse the player into this zombie ridden world of survival. From the somber melodies that tug at your heart strings for dramatic moments to the high paced beats that intensify any situation at a moments notice. Definitely a most welcome addition and bonus to this game.

What’s Bad:
It's too intense *sarcasm* and too short.

What Should Have Been Added:
Longer plot development for each character but since its only DLC to bridge the gap between Season 1 and Season 2 when released we will forgive Telltale Games.

Final Thoughts:
At this point I wish there was enough content to last me 400 days cause its so good I would have no problems sitting and playing an episode of The Walking Dead every day for 400 days. Telltale Games you have mastered the art of manipulating my emotions; whatever you are doing to put out such insanely good content keep doing it and never lose that magic. Just like that movie field of Dreams said; "If you build it, they will come."

The Season Finale Is Here

Gameplay - 10/10
Storyline - 10/10
Graphics - 9/10
Game Score : 29/30

I'm calling it as of now "GAME OF THE YEAR"!!! Telltale Games have captured the essence of story telling in this game and found a certain magic that eludes many AAA published gaming titles out there. Words fail me to express how truly wonderful a gaming experience this game has been to me. If you do one thing for yourself before the world ends let it be to play through all five episodes of "The Walking Dead".

By now you should be well up to speed on this game and our coverage of it but just in case feel free to check out our previous reviews for each episode individually: Episode 1Episode 2, Episode 3, and Episode 4. The conclusion to the gripping zombie tale that is The Walking Dead: The Game has finally come to a close with the release of Episode 5 – No Time Left. I swear its a shame AAA release titles that cost $60 don't have half the perfection and seamless storytelling that this series has had. If it doesn't win game of the year its a travesty.

Whats Good:
Every goddamn thing possible. I have written four reviews before this on how well put together of a game this is and by now if you haven't played it you are either poor, don't have awesome friends or a loving family, or are mentally challenged. Which if you are reading this game review bravo for making it this far. All fun and jokes aside do yourself a favor and play this game it has superb writing, voice acting, character development  soundtrack, etc. You literally find yourself totally engrossed in the games Universe connecting and growing with the characters as your campaign progresses. Without a doubt this is not a gaming experience anyone should miss. The full disc release is on December 4th so you can wait till then; or buy it on Steam for $13.99 as a part of their Black Friday sales event or just buy it through normal means. So many options with so little time...

Whats Bad:
Nothing worth mentioning at this point besides a few minor graphical visual hitches.

What Should Have Been Added:
More episodes cause God knows I couldn't get enough.

Final Thoughts:
It told an amazing story and kept me hooked throughout the seven months it was released. By the time the credits finished rolling, I found myself wishing that more was coming next month. The Walking Dead: The Game – Episode 5 – No Time Left is an excellent ending to the first season of the game. It finalizes a lot of questions while creating new ones that leaves the potential for another season so keep your fingers crossed. This game is bar none the best interactive gaming experience of the year and you owe it to yourself to take part in it...

Sometimes I Feel Like Someone Is Watching Me

Game Score : 29/30

Well after much gaming, fornicating and raping I am now seemingly sick so wont be leaving the house much for the upcoming holiday weekend. Just kidding about the last two things by the way. Thankfully this week has been a major week in the gaming industry seeing multiple highly anticipated games; so guess who has some catching up to do? If you guessed me then you are absolutely right if not, then at least your mom thinks your special. So first game on the list we decided to check out was the episode four of TellTale Games "The Walking Dead".

By now you should be well up to speed on this game and our coverage of it but just in case feel free to check out our previous reviews for each episode individually: Episode 1, Episode 2 and Episode 3. I swear I have such a love/hate relationship for TellTale Games more now than ever after completing the newly released episode 4. If this game does not get nominated for game of the year and hopefully win as well its a travesty and I would have lost all hope for the video gaming community at large. If you play video games in any way shape or form then you must play this game, trust me you will not regret it.

Trust me this game is for any and everyone so no need to feel intimidated or scared that the game is too complex. Just think of it as an interactive movie experience. For any random persons new to this game here is the breakdown of what it is. The Walking Dead is a point-and-click adventure game, played from a third-person perspective. The player can examine and interact with characters and items. The player must make use of inventory items and the environment; the player character often has limited time to do so and can die in the process. Quick time events are used for particular action scenes. The game also features role-playing elements, including moral decisions, which have consequences in relationship with other characters.

Well with that being said feel free to check out our continued gameplay footage of "The Walking Dead" on our YouTube channel. Hopefully you find it entertaining as you play along with me so to speak...

I Am Alive; Are You...?

0 comments click here
Gameplay - 7/10
Storyline - 10/10
Graphics - 9/10
Game Score : 26/30

Today is the day I finally get to play another intensely story driven game that I love so much. Sweet mother of god I love a good story driven game, granted there are a few snags here and there with the game-play infrastructure I was so into the story I made do and trudged ahead. Anywhore thinking i'm going to approach this differently and keep it simple since this game has been out for a while. So lets look at the epic tale of I Am Alive...

The game takes place one year after America has gone through a massive disaster known simply as "The Event," which included earthquakes that destroyed most cities and areas. Due to the damage of the aftermath, many people are forced to go without resources. The government tries to help citizens, but their attempts are useless. Supplies become low and this causes citizens to become agitated, violent and bitter. A male survivor (who is never named in the game) travels to his old home of the fictional city Haventon, to rescue his wife Julie and daughter Mary.

The Good:

I love the story line behind this game, you really connect with the main character and all the ups and downs he has to go through as you progress through the game. Little by little you find yourself growing and shaping him as you encounter various situations where you have a choice in-front of you. From choosing to execute downed enemies to deciding if you want to give your supplies to injured people who you meet along the way. Even though it has no direct effect on the character growth in the game you feel connected to him to the point it feels like it does. In reference to the graphics on PC they are leagues ahead of the console release of this game as expected, which adds even more value to the overall experience of the game. The game has an emphasis on climbing and exploration. Every effort has a cost and, when engaging in physically demanding activities, such as climbing or jumping, it is critical to manage the main character's stamina for him to survive. By managing stamina skillfully players are rewarded by accessing hidden paths, resources and other survivors.

The Bad:

Some of the interactions especially for fight sequences can be a bit stiff. I found myself trying to do as I was instructed but for whatever reason it would not work. I feel that maybe it would have been easier if kills weren't interaction based but instead something you could do freely once you had your machete equipped. Granted that the game is a survival horror third person game and not a first person shooter i'll excuse this next point but I still have to make mention of it. The aiming mechanic for the gun in this game is in need of dire revision, way too many times I found myself missing targets I knew I was aiming on properly. The difficulty of the game itself at times can be daunting but that in itself is part of what makes it a good game.

The Ugly Truth:

The game is good. Not great but the story in and of itself is what carries it off so nicely. Maybe i'm being biased but I would like to think that people enjoy playing an engaging and interactive gaming experience. I would not recommend this game to the average casual gamer however even though there is an easy mode option that gives you unlimited retries. I feel that to truly experience what this game offers you have t be willing to experience the same type of survival risk that the character goes through. Knowing that you are low on supplies , retries, pitons, etc. can really change your frame of mind and the way you play the game as a whole.

Well that's it from us here at Zalgo_Cometh so feel free to check out our little game-play with commentary as always. So until next time; keep on gaming...

The Land Of the Free (Part 3)

0 comments click here
Gameplay - 7/10
Storyline - 6/10
Graphics - 7/10
Game Score : 20/30

Hey y'all; here we are in week three of free games month here on Zalgo Cometh. It is time for another video game review and today we will be looking at Slender. Slender is a free indie-developed psychological horror/survival horror video game released in June 2012 as a beta for Microsoft Windows and OS X. The game is based on the Something Awful forums' creation, Slender Man.

Slender begins with the player in a forest at night. The player is equipped with a flashlight that has a battery which must be conserved. The player is able to jog for a short period before running out of breath. There are 10 different landmarks scattered throughout the woods including vehicles, a building, a giant tree, rocks, brick walls, a stone pillar, a tunnel, cut down trees, and fuel tanks. Dirt paths are present, but the player is able to travel in any direction and is only bound by fences which enclose the area. The goal of the game is to find a total of eight pages hidden on 8 of the 10 major landmarks in the forest, though collecting the 8 pages will not end the game. Each page is a message or drawing concerning Slender Man, who pursues the player through the forest. Each time the player collects a page (or if the player fails to collect a page after a certain period of time) Slender Man's pursuit of the player becomes more urgent. Asked a friend of mine to play the game as well and give me his input and here is what he had to say...

So since I got this from the Boss, to do a review on. I decide to just jump right into the game. Without knowing the legend of the game slender is something you should not try to do, trust me. This cat and mouse game give you at least fifteen minutes of game play if you mange  to make it to the last page. If not, it's a game not for the weak hearted,  that would scare you and your friends into a heart attack or give you high ratings in your YouTube video about them. It's a simple sandbox game that you can get trap and lost in if you do not know where you're going. If you can get past the low graphics, eerie noise and a paranormal creature that is hunting you. It's a great game to see who gets scared the fastest and loudest. This is Sir. Chalo Underpants signing out.

Well think he pretty much covered it all; not much to say since its a short free game but if you want to check it out for yourself you can go to  http://slendergame.com  and download it or click here. Well until next time folks try not to die from a heart attack, its a lot fun being scared at times so be sure you try out the game or you can just watch me suffer through it here...

The Bloody Plot Thickens

Game Score : 29/30

Aww yeah, after much wanting and waiting they released Episode 2 of The Walking Dead. If you recall we played Episode 1 a little while back and it was so good I decided to follow up the series. So welcome to another video game review here on Zalgo Cometh. Since this is an episode within the same game we already reviewed I wont get into too much repeating of praise for the game as a whole, so if you like feel free to check out our review of The Walking Dead: Episode 1 and then come back to this review of Episode 2. Anywhore lets get right into it...

Last time we played this game I was blown away by the story-line and game-play mechanics behind the game. This episode starts out on a faster note than the previous as we find ourselves with a new character called Mark in the forest foraging for food. After some searching they discover that a zombie already beat them to the punch and is busy eating a rabbit they could have used to feed everyone. Don't ask me how a zombie sneaked up on and successfully caught a rabbit but it is what it is. Through some chit chat we learn a bit about what has happened since we left our group of fearless heroes in Episode 1. They are seemingly running out of food and roughly 3 months has passed; tempers are running high with no signs of subsiding. Out of nowhere there is a loud scream and they are off to investigate; they come across a man lying on the ground, his leg stuck in a beartrap. It’s a gruesome sight, and as you struggle unsuccessfully to free him, you realize his anguished screams have attracted a crowd of walkers. That leaves you with a big decision: Do you run away and leave him to his fate or do you continue to try and help him?

Honestly after playing the game the first time I didn't really have much if any complaints about this game beside it being too short, so I wasn't expecting much of an improvement on an already awesome game; boy was I wrong. From start to finish the game sucks you in and drags you kicking and screaming for the ride. The brilliant minds at Telltale Games sure know how write a good story, from the voice acting to the soundtrack to the choices given in the game everything meshes seamlessly together to provide you with a gaming experience second to none of its genre. I really enjoy the fact that the controls are simple and straight forward as this enables any and everyone to enjoy the game at their own pace without feeling overwhelmed by clunky controls and tedious maneuvers. The scenarios in the game are its true highlight and major selling point. Adding a simple time mechanic to these decisions ramps up the level of excitement and anxiety even more which adds value to the game-play experience. With so much going on, so many choices to make, and so many shambling zombies to kill, I am excited to return to the world of The Walking Dead when Episode 3 comes out...

Thanks For Stopping By
