Hey y'all; here we are in week three of free games month here on Zalgo Cometh. It is time for another video game review and today we will be looking at Slender. Slender is a free indie-developed psychological horror/survival horror video game released in June 2012 as a beta for Microsoft Windows and OS X. The game is based on the Something Awful forums' creation, Slender Man.

Slender begins with the player in a forest at night. The player is equipped with a flashlight that has a battery which must be conserved. The player is able to jog for a short period before running out of breath. There are 10 different landmarks scattered throughout the woods including vehicles, a building, a giant tree, rocks, brick walls, a stone pillar, a tunnel, cut down trees, and fuel tanks. Dirt paths are present, but the player is able to travel in any direction and is only bound by fences which enclose the area. The goal of the game is to find a total of eight pages hidden on 8 of the 10 major landmarks in the forest, though collecting the 8 pages will not end the game. Each page is a message or drawing concerning Slender Man, who pursues the player through the forest. Each time the player collects a page (or if the player fails to collect a page after a certain period of time) Slender Man's pursuit of the player becomes more urgent. Asked a friend of mine to play the game as well and give me his input and here is what he had to say...

So since I got this from the Boss, to do a review on. I decide to just jump right into the game. Without knowing the legend of the game slender is something you should not try to do, trust me. This cat and mouse game give you at least fifteen minutes of game play if you mange  to make it to the last page. If not, it's a game not for the weak hearted,  that would scare you and your friends into a heart attack or give you high ratings in your YouTube video about them. It's a simple sandbox game that you can get trap and lost in if you do not know where you're going. If you can get past the low graphics, eerie noise and a paranormal creature that is hunting you. It's a great game to see who gets scared the fastest and loudest. This is Sir. Chalo Underpants signing out.

Well think he pretty much covered it all; not much to say since its a short free game but if you want to check it out for yourself you can go to  http://slendergame.com  and download it or click here. Well until next time folks try not to die from a heart attack, its a lot fun being scared at times so be sure you try out the game or you can just watch me suffer through it here...

Waaasssuuuuuppppppppp????, lol god that never gets old. Anywhore; welcome to another video game review here on Zalgo_Cometh. I bring for your pleasure and entertainment another free game as promised for the month of August. As you should have realized by now today we will be looking at Alien Swarm. So sit back relax and as Deadpool would say "Feeeeeel the love...".

Alien Swarm is a freeware top-down shoot-em-up video game by Valve Corporation. It is a remake of the Alien Swarm mod for Unreal Tournament 2004, and it was developed by the original team, who were hired by Valve during the course of the development process. Four players can join a single co-operative game, the aim of which is to progress through science fiction-themed levels while eliminating waves of aliens. Players can choose from 40 different pieces of equipment. The game includes persistent statistics, unlockable equipment, and achievements. All this alongside the fact that its free and we can definitely say we have a winner on our hands ladies and gentlemen. The only official campaign in the game thus far, is called Jacob's Rest, and centers around a swarm of invasive aliens having taken over a colonized planet in December 2052. Marines deployed by a drop ship named "The Bloodhound" arrive to search for survivors and if need be, to destroy the colony to prevent the spread of the aliens.

The game is class-based, with players choosing from the roles of Officer, Special Weapons, Medic, and Tech. Each class has two selectable characters, with differences in abilities.
Officer
Grants a passive bonus to damage and damage resistance to nearby allies. He has access to the Vindicator, a class-restricted shotgun with an incendiary grenade launcher and has general all-around abilities. They are also capable of throwing extra amounts of explosive ordnance, and may find class-restricted ammo caches on the field for his Vindicator shotgun. The two playable characters are Sarge and Jaeger.
Special Weapons
Brings raw damage to the table and starts out with a customized autogun with superior parameters, high magazine capacity, and auto-aiming ability. The Special Weapons gains access to a powerful minigun at a high enough level, and can pick up class-restricted ammo caches on the field. The two playable characters are Wildcat and Wolfe.
Medic
Is the only class able to equip and deploy temporary healing beacons, and at a high enough level can use a medigun to selectively heal teammates and themselves. The two playable characters are Faith and Bastille.
Tech
Carries a motion sensor, sets up sentry guns faster, welds doors faster, and is the only class capable of unlocking certain door panels or completing certain objectives by means of a hacking minigame. They also have access to a prototype assault rifle with auto-aiming capabilities and the ability to fire stun grenades. The two playable characters are Crash and Vegas.

The game has a very well rounded and detailed experience system which keeps track of the players progress as you levels up. Leveling up is integral in this game as it is how you unlock a wider range of more powerful weapons and equipment. Though the characters, classes and their skills are fixed, players can earn Experience Points for their account by completing missions and earning Achievements. Each Achievement is worth 50 experience points, and experience from missions is based on several factors. Players still earn experience even if their marine dies during the course of a mission - but your income will probably be lower than that of your surviving squadmates unless you died near the end of the mission. Upon reaching the maximum level (27) you have the option to trade in all your accumulated experience points and revert back to level 1. For this you get what is called a promotion and a shiny new emblem/badge to go on your account so people can see how far you have gone playing the game. This system is similar to that of the Call of Duty franchise except less beneficial to the player directly. Well that about covers my little foray into Alien Swarm so be sure to check it out for free on STEAM and if you can't then recommend it to someone and watch my play-through.

The Bloody Plot Thickens

Aww yeah, after much wanting and waiting they released Episode 2 of The Walking Dead. If you recall we played Episode 1 a little while back and it was so good I decided to follow up the series. So welcome to another video game review here on Zalgo Cometh. Since this is an episode within the same game we already reviewed I wont get into too much repeating of praise for the game as a whole, so if you like feel free to check out our review of The Walking Dead: Episode 1 and then come back to this review of Episode 2. Anywhore lets get right into it...

Last time we played this game I was blown away by the story-line and game-play mechanics behind the game. This episode starts out on a faster note than the previous as we find ourselves with a new character called Mark in the forest foraging for food. After some searching they discover that a zombie already beat them to the punch and is busy eating a rabbit they could have used to feed everyone. Don't ask me how a zombie sneaked up on and successfully caught a rabbit but it is what it is. Through some chit chat we learn a bit about what has happened since we left our group of fearless heroes in Episode 1. They are seemingly running out of food and roughly 3 months has passed; tempers are running high with no signs of subsiding. Out of nowhere there is a loud scream and they are off to investigate; they come across a man lying on the ground, his leg stuck in a beartrap. It’s a gruesome sight, and as you struggle unsuccessfully to free him, you realize his anguished screams have attracted a crowd of walkers. That leaves you with a big decision: Do you run away and leave him to his fate or do you continue to try and help him?

Honestly after playing the game the first time I didn't really have much if any complaints about this game beside it being too short, so I wasn't expecting much of an improvement on an already awesome game; boy was I wrong. From start to finish the game sucks you in and drags you kicking and screaming for the ride. The brilliant minds at Telltale Games sure know how write a good story, from the voice acting to the soundtrack to the choices given in the game everything meshes seamlessly together to provide you with a gaming experience second to none of its genre. I really enjoy the fact that the controls are simple and straight forward as this enables any and everyone to enjoy the game at their own pace without feeling overwhelmed by clunky controls and tedious maneuvers. The scenarios in the game are its true highlight and major selling point. Adding a simple time mechanic to these decisions ramps up the level of excitement and anxiety even more which adds value to the game-play experience. With so much going on, so many choices to make, and so many shambling zombies to kill, I am excited to return to the world of The Walking Dead when Episode 3 comes out...
